Stages of Care
Reality Check
The PRC's first stage of care focuses on addressing the root of sexual integrity through education. Reality Check is a science-based Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) Education program that teaches young people about personal responsibility, goal setting, healthy decision-making, and the prevention of risky behaviors. It focuses on abstinence as the best tool for preventing unplanned pregnancies and contracting STIs — and speaks to the stability and benefits of a healthy marriage as the appropriate avenue for sexual relations. It also helps students understand the benefits of delaying sexual activity and childbearing to protect their future goals and foster lifelong relationships.
The alternative to an SRA program is an SRR program — sexual risk reduction. SRR assumes that teens can't or won't avoid sexual experimentation and so focuses on the use of condoms and other forms of contraception with a view to simply reduce, rather than eliminate, sexual risk among teens as a "secondary prevention" strategy.
The SRR approach normalizes teen sex even though CDC data continues to show that the majority of teens (close to 70%) have not had sex. Conversely, SRA equips teens to withstand peer pressure and refrain from risk sexual behavior, helping improve their prospects of reaching positive future outcomes. Studies show that in states that teach Sexual Risk Avoidance, the teen birth rate is lower.
Every year, the PRC teaches Reality Check to hundreds of middle and high school students across Utah through public schools, charter schools, homeschool groups, and youth groups. In the 2024 school year, the number of students that were taught through the Reality Check program was over 1,800, and we are currently recommended as the top provider in Granite School District.

Pregnancy Services
The PRC's second stage of care walks with women and men as they navigate their pregnancy decision. For many of our patients, the decision-making process is overwhelming, so we seek to provide them with comprehensive information about all of their options, as well as resources and referrals to meet their individual needs. Our appointments are designed to empower individuals with knowledge and support, so that they know they have choices, that they are not alone, and that there is hope.
In our culture, women facing unplanned pregnancies are told that abortion is the only way for them to be happy; abortion will make their problem go away. They are told that it can be as simple, painless, and clean as taking two pills and forgetting it ever happened. Many times, women come to this decision on their own, with no one there to help or educate them on what the process really looks like. The PRC seeks to combat this through compassionate care and support.
The Pregnancy Resource Center provides information regarding abortion procedures and risks; however, we do not provide abortions, abortifacients, or referrals to obtain them.
Services offered:
- Lab-grade pregnancy testing
- Limited ultrasound for pregnancy confirmation
- Limited STI testing
- Information on all available options
- Access to dozens of community referrals and resources
- Medical and patient services follow-ups
PRC patients have a big decision to make. We want to equip and encourage them through resources and support so that they can walk forward into their future with less anxiety and feeling like they've made a decision that fits with their values. But most importantly, we want our patients to walk out of every appointment with hope, knowing that they are cared for and that they have value.
Want to be involved in our stage two services? The PRC is always looking for female volunteers with a medical background or who are just willing to listen compassionately to our patient's stories and offer support.

Parenting Resources
The PRC's third stage of care is for those clients who have chosen to parent. Expectant, first-time mothers and fathers can join our twice-monthly, earn-while-you-learn Lifesteps parenting classes in English or in Spanish from the time they find out they're pregnant until their baby turns 1. These classes offer educational and material support as well as group settings where parents can connect with others who are on similar journeys and be invested in by experienced parenting mentors. Clients learn about healthy pregnancy expectations; infant care, hygiene, and safety; and communication and parenting skills.
The decision to keep their baby was likely a hard one, but after making it, PRC clients are then facing a long, uncertain road ahead, and it can be overwhelming when they feel like they don't know where to start. Having a supportive community to walk with them throughout their pregnancy and as they navigate this new stage of life is important for clients to feel empowered in their ability to parent.
In addition to our parenting classes, stage three care at the PRC also includes targeted support for men. Women are not the only ones impacted by and responsible for an unexpected pregnancy. Unfortunately, the men involved rarely have someone to talk to. The PRC has created a space called our Stepping Up fatherhood program that is specifically designed for expectant fathers to be able to navigate their thoughts and concerns.
Experienced fatherhood mentors encourage and instruct male clients in practical skills on how to serve their families. Our Stepping Up mentors care about the physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare of these expectant fathers. It is important that fathers, as well as mothers, know and feel that they're not alone. The PRC's fatherhood program provides, sometimes for the first time, a space for men to find a supportive community of other men who are going through or have gone on the same journey they are.

Pregnancy Loss Recovery and Support
The PRC's fourth stage of care is for those women who have tragically chosen to abort. Whether a woman had an abortion last month or 20 years ago, the PRC is ready to partner with them on their journey to healing and freedom through our Pathway to Hope abortion recovery program.
Many women deal with grief, regret, shame, and feelings of being unforgivable after having an abortion. They lack hope as they deal with the emotional, spiritual, and relational fallout that comes with a decision like that. And the sad truth is that many of them suffer these things in silence. Our post-abortion recovery program offers multiple routes for these women find restoration for their wounded souls.
All post-abortion recovery sessions are led by those who are post-abortive themselves, have found healing, and have moved forward with hope for their futures. These facilitators are ready to guide other women on their journeys without judgement or shame. Many women find it freeing to finally speak openly with others that have walked this road before them.
Pathway to Hope is a safe-space to share as much or as little as women are ready to share. Our goal is to listen to their stories, thoughts, and concerns, to offer them tools and resources, but most importantly to show them that they are not unforgivable. There is hope on the other side of abortion.
If you or anyone you know has experienced the pain of a past abortion, the PRC is here with open arms to provide you with compassionate care as you navigate your post-abortion journey. Contact us today to get support.
